As the 2018-19 school year comes to a close, the Fund for Public Schools is grateful for the incredible commitment of all our partners to ensure every New York City public school student can fulfill their dreams. The Fund is proud to announce that the Javits Juniors Scholarship Program will provide five $5,000 college scholarships to high school seniors graduating this week.

The Jimmy and Rosemary Breslin American Writer Award

On June 7th, 2018, thirteen New York City public school students writers were honored as the winners of the Jimmy and Rosemary Breslin American Writer Award during a ceremony at Tweed. The award is the culmination of a writing competition highlighting the journalistic voices of NYC’s young writers, and honors legendary columnist Jimmy Breslin and his wife Rosemary.

Spring 2018 STEM Institute

In early April, Stuyvesant High School hosted more than 800 NYC public school teachers and administrators at the Spring STEM Institute — a three-day professional development opportunity for teachers. This Spring’s event featured inspiring speeches from New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza.

Honoring the Winners of the 2018 Javits Juniors Scholarship Program

On Monday April 30, the Javits Center and Javits Foundation held an award ceremony honoring Victoria Rodriguez and Ashelyn Arias, the inaugural recipients of the Javits Juniors Scholarship Program. This new initiative supports the higher education of New York City high school students, and encourages them to seek ways to improve their community through public service and innovative thinking.
