A Message from Chancellor Carranza
Today I am pleased to announce the appointment of Julie L. Shapiro as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Fund for Public Schools.
Julie is an experienced nonprofit leader with a proven track record and passionate commitment for advancing equity and excellence through public-private partnerships. She will join the Fund for Public Schools having served as Executive Director of The Door, an internationally recognized NYC youth development agency providing wraparound supports to empower foster care and homeless youth. Previously, Julie served as Senior Vice President for Seedco, where she led workforce development programs; as an Assistant Vice President at F.E.G.S Health and Human Services System; and as a Project Manager at the NYC Human Resources Administration’s Office of Policy and Program Analysis. Julie will officially join The Fund on November 25, 2019.
Under Julie’s leadership and with my full support, The Fund will strengthen existing partnerships and secure critical investments for key educational priorities to support our administration’s Equity and Excellence for All agenda. The Fund will continue to champion the NYC Department of Education’s efforts to provide every single child, in every classroom, in every NYC public school, with a rigorous, inspiring, and nurturing learning experience that enables a pathway to success in college and careers.
As always, thank you for partnering with us to support NYC’s public schools. I could not be more thrilled for our shared work ahead.
Richard A. Carranza
Chair, The Fund for Public Schools & Chancellor, NYC Department of Education
