Teaching & Leadership

The DOE is committed to building and sustaining a pipeline of high-quality teachers and leaders across all levels of school operations. As the nation's largest school system with over 1,800 schools, DOE hires approximately 6,000 new teachers, 200 new principals, and 400 new assistant principals each year to meet citywide demand. A range of grant-funded programs support the ongoing development of our teachers and leaders across NYC.
